About Project
Female athletes in Uganda face many challenges such as a lack of funding, equipment, coaching, media coverage, and social support. However, they have not given up on their passion and potential.
They have proven that they can excel in sports and inspire others with their courage and perseverance, paving the way for other female athletes to follow in their footsteps and make history.
Nakimuli Teddy - Boxing Athlete
Nakimuli Teddy started boxing at age 14 and made history at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games by winning the country's first boxing medal and becoming the first Ugandan woman to win a boxing medal. She competed in the light-flyweight category and secured a bronze medal without throwing a single punch.
Asiimwe Ritah - Badminton Para-Athlete
Asiimwe Ritah is a badminton para-athlete from Uganda who has overcome incredible challenges to pursue her passion for sports. She lost her right hand in a brutal attack when she was 18 years old, but she did not let that stop her from finishing her education and learning how to play badminton with her left hand. She made history by representing Uganda at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, where she competed in the women's singles SU5 category. She showed courage, resilience, and determination in every match, and inspired many people with her story. She is now aiming for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, where she hopes to win a medal for her country. Asiimwe Ritah is a true role model and a shining example of what one can achieve with hard work and perseverance.
Anzoa Anna Harriet - Table tennis Para-Athlete
Anzoa Anna Harriet is a remarkable para-athlete from Uganda who excels in table tennis and javelin. She was born with a disabled right hand, but that did not stop her from pursuing her passion for sports. She started playing table tennis at the age of 10 under the guidance of coach Regina Nakibuule.
Anzoa has won several medals and trophies in both national and international competitions. In 2022, she shone at the 7th Uganda Paralympic Sports Gala in Iganga, where she won both the ladies’ secondary schools and community female table tennis categories. She also competes in javelin throw and has represented Uganda at the World Para Athletics Grand Prix in Tunisia.
Anzoa is an inspiration to many people with disabilities who want to achieve their dreams. She is determined, hardworking, and confident. She believes that nothing is impossible with God's help and support from her family, friends, and coaches. She loves sports because they make her happy, healthy, and strong. She also enjoys reading books, listening to music, and making new friends.
Asina Kabendera - Basketball & Netball Athlete
Asina Kabendera is a talented and inspiring netball and basketball athlete from Uganda. She has represented her country in both sports at the international level, winning recognition for her skills and passion.
Asina was part of the Uganda national netball team that made its debut at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia. She was also named as one of the runners-up for the player of the season award by the Uganda Netball Federation in 2022.
Asina is not only a star on the court, but also a role model for young girls who want to follow their dreams: "The message I give to young girls, or the young generation is to follow their dreams, and if they have opportunities to grab them". Asina Kabendera is a shining example of what can be achieved with hard work, dedication, and enthusiasm.
By shining a spotlight on female athletes in Uganda, we can celebrate their achievements, and raise awareness about their struggles., encourage more girls and women with disabilities to pursue sports as a means of empowerment, national representation, and enjoyment. Sports can be a powerful tool for social change and inclusion, and female athletes in Uganda are leading the way.
